Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem Mobile Apps Coming This Fall

According to Polygon, Nintendo are starting to branch out a little, and seem to be testing the water somewhat by announcing that they will be releasing mobile apps based on Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing to be released this coming Fall/Autumn.

Arguably the grandfathers of mobile gaming, Nintendo have seen their market share in this area fall considerably thanks to the ease of gaming on mobile phones and tablets and on iOS and Android. Being the rather savvy company that they are, they branched out slightly already with their Miitomo app this past March, and this current move shows their intent.

Of the Fire Emblem app, Nintendo say it will be “more accessible in comparison to the Fire Emblem games for Nintendo’s dedicated gaming systems”, and will “offer the great value of a role-playing strategy game.”.

Regarding Animal Crossing this seems to be more of an add-on to an existing game, with the the Polygon article stating “The mobile version of Animal Crossing will connect somehow to at least one of the Animal Crossing games for Nintendo’s dedicated gaming systems, though the company didn’t specify which titles would feature connectivity.”

Finally, “in a statement” from Nintendo, they said:

“Compared to Miitomo, they have more prominent game elements, and the game content will tie closely into Nintendo’s dedicated games business,” the company said in a release. “Nintendo will provide more details about these applications closer to their launch period, and aims to have multiple types of apps that appeal to different audiences and different groups of players.”
