Archer: Dreamland is Coming this Spring

Archer

I was checking through my Facebook ‘On This Day’ feature and today I saw a post from last year saying “So glad Archer is back next week.” So I was a perturbed to know that we still don’t know when season eight of the awesome, spy series would return, as nothing had been announced.

Flash forwards a few hours and it was almost as if the creators of the series had realized that they probably should announce something, given the series would normally return any day now. The official Archer Twitter account has posted a couple of tweets over the last couple of tweets with a couple of teaser trailers of the upcoming season.

This tweets posted both indicate that Archer: Dreamland would be coming to FXX in the spring time. There are currently two teaser trailers available via the tweets, which you can see below:

It was revealed at Comic-Con last year that our favorite alcoholic spy is heading to roaring ’20s and will be a private detective. This is a huge change for the series, taking it out of the standard timeline and leaving us wondering what is going on. Given the title of the season, Dreamland, this will probably be a dream Archer is experiencing following the events of the end of the last season.

If you need a reminder (SPOILERS), Archer was found to be shot and found floating in a Hollywood star’s swimming pool. Presumably, with at least three seasons to go, he won’t be dead, most likely in a coma whilst he tries to uncover the secret as to who murdered his partner, whilst in ‘Dreamland‘. A press release from FX (featured on Polygon) confirmed this information:

“The case proves to be more difficult than expected after Archer quickly gets mixed up in a deadly game of tug of war between Los Angeles’ most powerful crime bosses. Every clue leads Archer further away from his goal and deeper into a mystery involving kidnapping, prostitution and drug addiction.”

His descent into a deeper mystery as perhaps a metaphor for how he is coping with his supposed coma and perhaps solving the case will bring him out of it. It is unclear at this point as to whether the 1920s setting will be for the entire season, or whether we will find out what happens to Archer before season nine. This isn’t the first time Archer has changed its setting; season five’s story moved away from the spy agency to Archer: Vice, where the team became drug dealers, before becoming a detective agency.

A specific date hasn’t been set for the season premiere but it can’t come soon enough!
