Fifteen gory minutes of gameplay from upcoming sci-fi adventure title, The Surge, have been posted on the PlayStation YouTube channel just in time for Gamescom. Developed by Deck13, The Surge features intense melee combat versus a multitude of both human and robot foes. Adam Hetaney, head of game design at Deck13 provides commentary for the video including many interesting details about the game’s setting and gameplay systems.
Deck13’s last project was Lords of the Fallen which bore no small resemblance to the Dark Souls series. It’s no surprise then that The Surge comes across as a Souls-like game set in a sci-fi future where the earth has succumbed to the effects of global warming. A stamina sapping system has been utilized where every combat move has a cost so dodging and blocking must be used tactically to maximize resources. It is also possible to target specific body parts on the fly and focus on weak points which results in some spectacular finishing moves.

Although the video is on the PS4 channel, it looks like The Surge will be coming to Xbox One and PC as well. Look for it sometime in 2017.
