Call of Cthulhu – Depths of Madness trailer is seriously creepy

Call of Cthulhu

Firstly let me help you out. “Cthulhu” is pronounced “Ker-thoo-loo” but it rolls off the tongue nicely, I can’t tell you how long I used fumble some weird “C’thulahoo” sound when I read that word in my head, hell I’d just avoid saying it out loud for the simple reason that I had no idea on how to pronounce it. Still, I got your back, feel free to pass it on.

Lessons on pronunciation aside, Focus Home Interactive – the publishers behind Space Run Galaxy, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada and of course the Farming Simulator games – have released a trailer for their 2017 release Call of Cthulhu – The Official Video Game, and it…looks…awesome.

Fans of HP Lovecraft will no doubt be excited at the prospect of playing out a Lovecraftian adventure, with the official spiel reading:

A Private Detective, Edward Pierce is a mission to find the truth behind the death of an acclaimed artist and her family on a backwater island. Pierce is used to trusting his instincts, but with whale mutilations and disappearing bodies, this is only the beginning as reality becomes skewed.

As your investigation leads you closer to the sphere of influence of the Great Dreamer, you will start to doubt everything you see. You will have to find balance between your own sanity, and your determination in finding out what lurks in the shadows – as they say that madness is the only way that can bring you to the truth.

On a mission to find the truth behind the death of an acclaimed artist and her family on a backwater island, the player will soon uncover a more disturbing truth as the Great Dreamer, Cthulhu, prepares its awakening…

I have high hopes for Call of Cthulhu, I really do. There have been numerous Lovecraftian related games in recent years, and this one looks like it’s going to be tackling the giant-tentacled monster in a very compelling manner, in this investigative RPG game.

Call of Cthulhu releases this year on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. How does it look to you? Intriguing or dull? Scary or meh? Let us know in the comments below, the RGM Forums or on Twitter.
