Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – Summary of details released today

Earlier today Infinity Ward officially unveiled Infinite Warfare (IW), the next instalment in the Call of Duty franchise.

The official Call of Duty website is now also up and running for IW, and if you have not yet seen the full trailer we have included it below along with some of the various details that were revealed this morning about the games direction, and what we think will be the focus of Infinity Ward’s crack at zombies. You can check out our analysis of what you might have missed in the trailer this morning here.

Multiplayer:

Multiplayer Director Joe Cecot spoke briefly today during the live stream regarding what gamers can expect from the multiplayer (MP) mode. you won’t just be fighting on earth, you will in fact be visiting multiple different planets on which you will battle out your MP matches on, including a space station.

New lethal and tactical items make the cut so it will be interesting to see what they have done there, and Cecot also advised that the team has been watching and playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 to get a feel for what maps work the best for the community that plays them – “It is future, but its still the Call of Duty you love.”

In an interview conducted with IGN this morning, Design Director Jacob Minkoff has spoken about details regarding the dynamics of the space gameplay:

“It’s kind of the Top Gun fantasy,” he explained, noting that “it’s your fighter that you get to upgrade and customize. You get to walk along the flight deck and have the flight crew preparing it for you and saluting you and you get into it and you fly out into these crazy missions that you chose to go to.”

Minkoff also teased that the Jackal “can transform between atmospheric flight mode and zero-G flight mode for when you have to dogfight in the vacuum of space.”

IW’s campaign will also feature a warship called the ‘Retribution.’ The warship will be the players ‘home’ and is a key aspect of the campaign mode. This will be where you and your crew go to get organized for battle.

Minkoff also revealed that in the campaign you will be able to transition freely from ground missions to space combat with no loading screens at all:

“Many parts of the campaign – from boots-on-the-ground, to piloting a jet fighter, to zero-g and space combat – will occur as a near seamless, action packed experience with few visible loading times, and delivers the signature, blockbuster franchise moments that fans love.”

We are yet to learn more about the core mechanics of the MP modes at this stage, however all hints point towards the next wider reveal being at E3 later this year.

Modern Warfare Remake:

remasterThe team behind the development of the remastered  Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is Raven Software. This is a team that has a lot of experience with Call of Duty, working on titles with Infinity Ward previously (Modern Warfare 3 & Ghosts) plus they have also played a part in the development of Black Ops and Call of Duty Online which was released in China.

Three of the 10 maps that will be available were revealed this morning, and those are:

  • Crash
  • Backlot
  • Crossfire

“The original Modern Warfare raised the bar on video games and forever will be remembered as one of the best. It’s an honor to be developing the remaster and we are committed to faithfully remastering this classic for Call of Duty fans.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered boasts vibrant current generation visuals, with fully improved texture resolution and detail, high-dynamic range lighting, lit and shadowing VFX particles, revamped animation and audio, stunning sound, and much more. Fans will relive the full, iconic campaign as they’re transported around the globe with Capt. Price, Gaz and Soap across all the missions from the original game, including “All Ghillied Up,” “Charlie Don’t Surf,” and “Crew Expendable.” Players will also experience the online multiplayer mode that redefined Call of Duty by introducing killstreaks, XP, Prestige and more, and battle head-to-head in 10 fan-favorite maps from the original multiplayer mode, including classics such as “Crash,” “Backlot” and “Crossfire.” – Raven Software

Zombies Co-op Mode:zombies

The first image for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Zombies has been revealed, it doesn’t give much away apart from a possible time period of 1985 which you can see in the description printed on the movie reel snippet in the image.

Project Director, Brian Bright stated during this morning’s live stream that “its own completely different universe apart from Infinite Warfare” meaning that there will be no cross-over from the campaign or MP into the zombies co-op mode.

It will be it’s own entity functioning separately from the events that are occurring in the rest of the game. This is the first time that Infinity Ward have attempted to do their own take on zombies, with their previous titles including the ‘Aliens Mode’ which in its own right was a lot of fun but it simply was not what we have come to love from Treyarch’s zombies modes.

With this in mind we are hopeful that will mean a proper wave based mode will be introduced as I felt that was one thing that was really lacking from aliens.
