According to and article with the Associated Press, the Emmy and Grammy-nominated composer of Game of Thrones, Ramin Djawadi, has created the musical score for upcoming Gears of War 4 for the PC and Xbox One.

Djawadi wanted to remain faithful to the franchise while putting his own mark on it, and didn’t want people to hear it and think of Westeros.

“Obviously, I wanted to make it very different from ‘Game of Thrones’… Whenever I approach a new project, I want to make sure I’m setting up a new sound – even through we’re still using a lot of orchestra and percussion.

“I certainly wanted to stay in the direction fans know, but at the same time, I wanted to bring my own style to it…I wanted to stay in that world.”

Apparently the score will be “emotional and orchestral with synth elements” and judging from the word “emotional” and Djawadi’s comments, there could be a return of the franchise hitting gamers right in the feels like…*sniff*…Dom…damn bro. At least you’re with Maria now…Anyway, on the emotional side of things, Djawadi says

“There are some really nice scenes that are probably unexpected for ‘Gears,’ where we’re really pushing the emotional undertones with strings”

However, what many people probably don’t realise is that Ramin Djawadi isn’t just in this for the paycheck, Djawadi started his musical or at least sound related career in the 90’s as a sound technician working on classic titles such as System Shock and Thief. And in the past 20 years, it’s fair to say that gaming has come on, and he’s certainly noticed from the musical perspective.

“I remember back in the day there was never enough space on the disc to include full orchestral sound…Nowadays, it’s almost limitless. It’s amazing to be able to include a great, full soundtrack”

Gears of War 4 is out on Xbox One and PC on October 11th. Are you a GoT fan? Are you looking forward to hearing what Ramin Djawadi can bring to the franchise? Let us know what you think in the comments below or in the RGM Forums.
