Cyberpunk 2077: A game more ambitious than Witcher 3?

Gamers aren’t an easy bunch to please.  Few have earned the level of trust that studios like Naughty Dog and Rockstar have where the focus on quality in their products help them earn those pre-orders. After the release of Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red joined that exclusive group of being a studio that can certainly be trusted by gamers.

Although the Witcher series has concluded, CD already has a new project, Cyperpunk 2077, and it just may try and top Witcher 3 in the ambition department. Very little is known about the game, with only a CG teaser trailer being released back in 2013 (yes, that’s the most recent video released for the game) and no other information released or told. Well, it seems that we may have gotten a sneak peek at what CDPR has planned for their next potential franchise.

Thanks to a discovered grant request made by CDPR (and discovered by PC World), it appears that the details offered up within this request describe a game that is ambitious, to say the least. CD Projekt Red has requested funding for:

  1. “City Creation – comprehensive technology for the creation of “live”; playable in real time, the city’s large-scale, which is based on the principles of artificial intelligence and automation, and takes into account the development of innovative processes and tools to support the creation of high-quality games with open world”

  2. “Animation Excellence – comprehensive technology enables a significant increase in the quality and productivity of complex animations face and body for games RPG with open world, also taking into account the innovative process solutions and a unique set of dedicated tools.”

  3. “Cinematic Feel – comprehensive technology for providing a unique, film-quality RPG with open world, also taking into account the innovative process solutions and unique set of dedicated tools”

  4. “The generic support cross-platform multiplayer video games for popular consoles and operating systems”

CDPR illustrates here just how bold and daring they’re willing to be with their first venture into sci-fi. They look to be making their own kind of Blade Runner-esque RPG with a living open world and a cinematic feel. The cross-platform multiplayer also catches the eye, as CDPR seem to not only be offering multiplayer with the game, but cross-platform multiplayer. Does that mean Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players can coexist with one another in a game world? We can certainly hope that they can pull off every bit of their goals, as they seem primed to offer THE definitive sci-fi gaming experience.

Fingers crossed that it actually come out BEFORE 2077.
