Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Receives HDR Support

Title becomes one of the first to be HDR-compatible

Nicer shinier graphics are always good, providing the gameplay is there to support the game. As I referred to in my Psychology of a Gamer post on Peacocking and Penis Envy, when it becomes all about the shiny and games lose the substance then we have a change in priority and what’s important.

One of the biggest new stories that came out of the recent PlayStation event was that all PlayStation 4 consoles would be receiving an update to make them HDR compatible. ‘High Dynamic Range’ (HDR) refers to a way of rendering lighting to best display computer graphics that may have been lost in the past. Basically, providing you have the right set up you’ll benefit from these new updates. Sony released their most recent software update for the PS4s yesterday, meaning that all PS4s are now HDR compatible, as long as you have a TV that is compatible and a game that supports it too.

All Xbox One S consoles are also HDR compatible out of the box, though original Xbox One’s have not been updated in the same way that PS4s have.

It seems that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is one of the first games to receive said update for both Xbox One S and PlayStation 4.

Confirming the news on Twitter, via the official Deus Ex page, it has been detailed that an update has been released for the game which has fixed some issues, added new features and also the HDR update.

As long as we don’t get a run of HDR remasters I am ok with this.

Will you benefit from this new update? Are you holding off on HDR and 4K or does it not bother you? Let us know in the comments below or on the RGM Forums.
