From former developers at Evolution Studios, Wushu Studios is revealed!

Wushu Studios
Just what are they working on?

We have some very exciting news to share! Wushu Studios has officially been unveiled to the public as a brand new studio based out of Liverpool, UK. They were founded in August 2017 by former developers from the now-defunct Evolution Studios, the creators of such games as World Rally Championship, MotorStorm and Driveclub. The team is currently comprised of 11 members, with the leadership composed of studio founder Alan McDermott, design director Nigel Kershaw and art director Stuart Trevor. They’ve also recently acquired Nate Najda, the infamous “shinobi602” from Twitter, as their head of marketing and PR.

While starting a new studio is never the easiest of tasks, the team at Wushu Studios seems to have found their rhythm and are hard at work together.

Studio lead Alan McDermott stated that “Our core team at Wushu have worked together closely on numerous projects over the years so there was no downtime in figuring out how to work together, we just fell straight into a groove kicking around game ideas that appealed to us as players and developers.“

They aren’t sharing many details on their new project yet however, they have confirmed that they are using Unreal Engine 4, that their game is a new IP with a “tantalizing and unexpected take on the science fiction genre” and that progress on the prototype is coming along admirably since they began work on it in September 2017. They’ve got some great artists helping them out as well, such as Alex Figini, formerly a senior concept artist at Bioware.

We firmly believed in the idea that our initial concepts needed to be gamepad experiences as quickly as possible, so we turned to Unreal Engine for it’s amazing rapid prototyping capabilities. This approach has helped us figure out which of our concepts would allow us to flex our creative muscle most. It’s definitely not what people will be expecting to see from us; it’s absolutely not a racing game!” says Alan McDermott.

Why Wushu Studios? When I inquired about that name, Alan McDermott explained that “Naming things is really hard to do! We wanted something that was unique, memorable and generated intrigue. We also wanted to try and keep it simple and punchy. We felt that Wushu had a ring of ‘super-ninjas’ to it, and who wouldn’t want to be a super ninja?

Seeing this kind of talent from so many sources pull together is exciting! Even with details scarce right now, I’m eager to see just what they’re working on, especially since it’s such a drastic departure from the studio founders’ former games. We’ll keep you updated on any further announcements. We’d also like to wish a hearty congratulations to the team on the formation of their new studio. The best of luck to you all!
