It’s Official: Scalebound Cancelled

Scalebound Cancelled

We just reported on the rumor that Xbox One and Windows exclusive Scalebound may be in trouble or even cancelled.

News has just come in that Microsoft has cancelled the Platinum Games title by Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya. The news has been revealed moments ago on Windows Central where Microsoft have claimed it was down to “business decisions“. Microsoft released the following statement:

“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound.” We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2,” “Crackdown 3,” “State of Decay 2,” “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences. The game had suffere several delays over the course of its development since its reveal at E3 2014. The game was scheduled to release this year exclusively for Xbox One and Windows as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. There had not been any coverage of the title since its last preview at E3 2016.

The game had received many “most anticipated title” on several occasions and the community certainly seemed hyped about it. I am a bit gutted, not only was Scalebound a unique looking game, offering something different, but it was coming from a renowned studio with a great heritage. With the game being an exclusive to the Xbox gaming platform (Xbox One and Windows) it seems Microsoft has sadly lost one of its exclusives for 2017.
