J.J. Abrams Secretly Producing Next Installment in Cloverfield series?

J.J. Abrams sure does love his secret projects. After the critical and financial success of 10 Cloverfield Lane earlier this year, many fans were curious how (and if) the Cloverfield series would continue. Well, it seems that Paramount is very supportive of the continuation of the series, according to a report by The Wrap.

They report that the Abrams-produced film God Particle will be the latest installment to the Cloverfield series. The report also states that Paramount and Abrams hope to make one annual installment for Cloverfield from now on.

10cloverfield4-010 Cloverfield Lane was a bold new direction compared to the original Cloverfield, and it was a tremendously intense and well-done film overall with great performances from the leads. If God Particle serves as another bold and refreshing direction for the series, then it may help pave the way even more for a movie series that promotes experimentation and avoids any staleness in creativity due to new talent being brought in for each installment. This idea sounds promising, and although a movie series with annual releases doesn’t always end up well, new creators and perspectives for each film could lead to a series of films that never feel like they’re treading old ground. If Abrams and Paramount can pull this off, this may turn into one of the next major film series in Hollywood.

God Particle involves astronauts who making a shocking discovery and end up fighting for survival in a “now-altered reality.” It comes out February 24th, 2017, and stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Brühl and Chris O’Dowd.
