Kingsman 2 is “f****** mental” according to star Taron Egerton

2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service proved to be a hit with both audiences and critics alike thanks to a sharp script, great action, and great performances from its leads. The film was then greenlit for a sequel called Kingsman: The Golden Circle and will focus on the Kingsman moving into the United States to help their Kingsman-esque agency (called Statesman) combat the criminal mastermind Poppy (played by Julianne Moore). New information has been gradually released about the film (mostly cast-related), but the news cycle has been relatively quiet ever since filming concluded. However, in a recent interview with Collider, Egerton offered an updated perspective on the film and discussed the process that led to a sequel being confirmed:

“I remember when we finished the first one I was like, ‘This is a franchise right?’ and [Vaughn] said, ‘Well it depends on the first one. I’m not doing it unless the script is right.’ And he went away and him and Jane Goldman, his writing partner, wrote a really bloody good script. That’s always the most important thing; good director, good script, you’re on your way. It was hard, it was a tough shoot, it always is on that thing, but I think it’s gonna be amazing.”

It had seemed  that Egerton wanted everyone to know that this sequel may be different in certain ways, but it is undoubtedly a true sequel to Kingsman in every sense:

“It’s f****** mental, but it’s what people like and it’s what Matthew is good at. It’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s awesome… It’s bigger and it feels more ambitious, really. There are more characters, the world is explored in more detail. This weird version of reality where these spies exist is kind of explored more. I know Matthew’s announced a lot about the fact that we discover a sister organization based in America called the Statesman. They’re richer than us, they’ve got cool shit.”

The sequel sounds awfully promising, and with Matthew Vaughn returning to direct/co-write the script with Jane Goodman, along with the mostly returning cast (those that are still alive after the first installment), then it seems Golden Circle will be a sequel worth checking out.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle comes out October 6th, 2017, and stars Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, Mark Strong, Jeff Bridges, and more.
