Mass Effect Andromeda enemy race, the Kett, revealed

It seems that Game Informer is the only place that knows just about anything regarding Mass Effect Andromeda. Considering the massive amounts of exclusive information coming from their interviews with Creative Director Mac Walters and the Game Informer special they ran on the game as well. An additional video came from GI’s Bioware visit in the form of an antagonist reveal.

In the video, Andromeda’s Art Director, Joel MacMillan, goes into detail on how their mindset for character design for the original trilogy and then progressed to discuss how Andromeda would be different. MacMillan discusses how the alien races, as well as most of the original trilogy in general, had more of a sleek design to their races. With Andromeda’s races, they wish to make it look a bit more other-worldly, and that’s where the Kett come in. The Kett is the main antagonist species of the game, very much in the same vein as The Collectors from ME2. Also, they look like this:

Only slightly off-putting, yeah? This Andromeda race will be Ryder and company’s main opponent throughout the campaign, although it’s unclear what kind of abilities they have (judging by the trailer, they seem to utilize a gravity well, but it’s for a currently unknown purpose).

The video goes into great detail on the process of designing every aspect of the facial and body structure, ensuring that the Kett look intimidating, but not TOO intimidating to the point that they aren’t worthy of empathy. The decision to focus on personality primarily, then character design was another interesting aspect that I felt was extremely fitting if you hope to make an entire alien race that is supposedly the enemy not appear one-note.
