New Batch of Celebrity-led Shows Coming To Youtube Red

Earlier this year, Google launched a new subscription service called YouTube Red. The main benefits advertised were:

  • No ads
  • Downloadable Videos
  • Exclusive Content

So far, there’s been a fair bit of exclusive content. Rooster Teeth, PewDiePie, Lilly Singh, The Game Theorists, Dan Howell, Phil Lester and more, have all gotten their own YouTube Red exclusive series. Now, YouTube is taking it a step further, and getting names familiar even to those who aren’t avid YouTube viewers.

In a report from Variety, we learned a lot about upcoming Youtube Red shows and the starpower behind them.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is executive producing Lifeline, a show about time-traveling life insurance agents attempting to prevent the deaths of clients.

Doug Liman, director of The Bourne Identity, is creating a show with Jeff Lieber from Lost. It’s going to be called Impulse, and will be about a young girl with teleportation abilities.

The one show which does feature appearances from prominent YouTubers is currently unnamed, but will be produced by Dan Harmon – co-creator of Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty. It will be a comedy series (because why would Dan Harmon make anything else?) and will star Arin Hanson (Egoraptor) and Dan Avidan (Danny Sexbang) of Game Grumps, Starbomb, and Ninja Sex Party fame. It is apparently running with a competitive e-sports sitcom style storyline. I’m personally ecstatic. Dan Harmon is a comedic genius, and so are Arin and Danny. I feel like this could almost be like a second Video Game High School!
