No Man’s Sky Community Hub closed because it was a “hate filled wastehole”…

Oh No Man’s Sky, will you ever catch a break? Will there ever be a time when articles about you aren’t negative? Can you ever turn this massive, colossal, oil tanker of a ship around? At the moment, the answer to all of these questions appears to be a resounding – No.

In the latest developments surrounding No Man’s Sky, I’m not here to tell you about the game per se, more those people who have taken to Reddit to discuss it.

One of the web’s largest No Man’s Sky communities on Reddit – /NoMansSkyTheGame imploded earlier – albeit temporarily – because, according to moderator R0ugeW0lf it had become “a hate filled wastehole of no actual discussion.” In fact, what he had to say was this:

“So I purged the subreddit. It’s become a hate filled wastehole of no actual discussion. It’s not what we intended it to be and I don’t like providing a platform for hate. I’m sorry to everyone who used the subreddit as intended but you are now in the majority. I’m sure you can find a different place to discuss this game. It’s not hard.

“This was my decision and mine alone. The other moderators tried to sway my opinion but cynicism got the best of me as usual.”

The Sub-Reddit is back up now, but with only R0ugeW0lf as a moderator at the time he’d been bearing the brunt of the complaints and moans of his decision to close it down and purge it. However that’s changed now with the latest update from BaRKy1911 who is in as the head-mod whilst others are being vetted to help smooth things over.

“Hi everyone, whether you’re from /r/all, a vet of the sub, or from any other place then welcome. Hopefully this is the last big post on this situation.

“So what’s happening now is /u/Sporkicide is currently vetting some other mods. I’ve been brought in as head-mod, I moderate a few other subreddits but this one is substantially larger than most. The last mod team have all been removed. Any automod conditions that ‘censored’ people or anything of that matter have been removed. There’s still the spam filter but hopefully this place will return back to normal in the next few days.

“If you have any questions, queries or anything else feel free to leave them here. Uncivil comments will be removed as per usual.”

Also as a very succinct way, he described the debacle as such:

“I can’t give an exact summary, but old head mod removed all mods, purged the subreddit of all content. Admins got called in, I was asked to be the new mod. That’s the jist.”

Basically though, anything and everything to do with No Man’s Sky is just some kind of lumbering beast, stumbling and bumbling its way from one lump of negative news to the next, and unless some kind of massively game-changing update is realised, it will continue to do so until it finally falls on the sword of its own making.
