PlayStation VR release date and price now officially announced

Well, we have been waiting for a long time to finally find out just how much we need to start squirreling away to save up for the PlayStation VR device, today at GDC 2016 Sony have finally announced that price tag and a release window.

The release is set for October of 2016 with a price tag of:

  • $399USD
  • €399 EUR
  • 44,980 JPY

When you look at the price tags already associated with other VR devices such as Oculus Rift coming in at $599 and HTC Vive at $799, the PSVR device is certainly more in the realm of being obtainable for many gamers than its higher priced counterparts.

Andrew House, Sony Computer Entertainment President, also announced that there is a media player on the way that will support VR and it will launch in October along with the device.

With over 50 games being released for the device between its launch and the end of 2016, you won’t quickly run out of games to play, including the freebie that comes with it which is ‘The Playroom VR’.

Below you can see the official announcement video which was released this morning.
