RGM Presents…Something For The Weekend

Good evening Real Gamers, I do hope you’re all doing well. I’m here to present to you a new feature at Real Game Media, that we’re lovingly bringing to you called – Something For The Weekend. The idea here is that sometimes you want something different to what you’re used to, something for the weekend to give you some gaming thrills and spills. It could be a little indie game, it could be an old retro game or it could be a huge classic from yesteryear…anyway, enough babble. Let’s get into it. My recommendation for Something For The Weekend, this weekend is: Child of Light.

Now I must admit, I absolutely fell in love with Child of Light when I first saw the trailers. It grabbed me and as soon as I could, I grabbed it back. I picked the game up on Steam and when I started playing, I found that I just couldn’t stop. It was the absolute epitome to me of a perfectly beautiful game.

The artwork, the dialogue, the music, the gameplay – all of it for me was a solid 10/10. A perfect blend of a fairy-tale style fantasy-platform game and a turn-based RPG, the game revolves around a young girl named Aurora, who has seemingly died in her sleep only to awake in the strange and wonderful world of Lemuria. From there you try to find out where you are, why you are there and what you need to do.

All of the dialogue is in rhyme, including all signs and even the slight pieces of narration when you find strange items (apart from one character who always needs a little help), which in a way makes the entire transcript of the game read like some kind of massively epic poem and the ways in which your eventual “squad” is balanced ensures that you never just stick with the same partners when going into battle. The controls are so simple that the learning curve is almost non-existent and will take you literally minutes to get a grasp of and the story is so enthralling that you will constantly want to find out what happens next.

I would strongly urge anyone who is even remotely interested to at least look a little further into this game. Child of Light is widely available on all current systems including through Uplay and Steam for PC, on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One through the Xbox Store, on the PlayStation 3 and 4 through the PlayStation Store and on Nintendo WiiU through Nintendo’s online store and all for the princely sum of $14.99 (£11.99). And believe me, it will be one of the best additions to your games catalogue ever.
