Shenmue and Shenmue II HD remasters are currently being looked into

Shenmue, you barely whisper that word on social media and the thousands of loyal fans come running to show their support for the franchise.

As we saw last year at E3, plans and development are now well underway for the third installment in the franchise, but what about the first two games? Will they ever see the light of day on current generation consoles? According to Sega’s Community Manager Dan Sheridan, it looks like they will.

In responding to a question posted for the Q&A segment of the latest installment in Sega Central, Sheridan had this to say about remasters of Shenmue I & II:

“With regards to Shenmue I and II HD, of course we would love to release these tomorrow. Sadly, it’s not as simple as porting the games to current platforms as we will need to ensure that any HD remaster lives up to the quality of the original titles. And with games as immersive as Shenmue I and II, there are further complications from licensed products that were included in the original games. That said, we’d love to do it and are currently investigating how to make it a reality.”Is this something you would like to see? Would you buy Shenmue I & II if remasters were released on current generation consoles? Let us know in the comments section below.
