EA has announced that Respawn, the developer of Titanfall is working on a new 3rd person Star Wars game. In a post on EA’s official site, executive vice president of EA Studios stated, “the talented team at Respawn Entertainment have expanded our relationship to include the development of an all-new 3rd person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe”, and that Respawn will be joining Visceral Games, DICE, Capital Games, BioWare, Motive who are all working on Star Wars projects.
This new Star Wars game will be led by former God of War III creative director Stig Asmussen, who joined Respawn in June 2014. Assmussen also assure fans that while the team at Respawn “erupted in cheers” at the news that they would be working on a Star Wars game Stig states, “it’s not all fun and games” and they plan to respect the property.
“We promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet. Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics.”
This is exciting news as Respawn with Titanfall proved the developers aptitude for handling games on a grand scale, match that with Stig Asmussen’s pedigree on God of War III, arguably the best game in the series, and this new Star Wars game is in capable hands and could be something very special.
