Weekly Box Office Check #1

Boo!tiful Box Office

Welcome to Real Game Media’s inaugural Weekly Box Office Check where we take an analytical view at the status of the top ranking films in the theatrical box office.

Tyler Perry knocked it out of the park with Boo! A Madea Halloween, and topped the charts. Despite it’s 33 on Metacritic, the film is utterly slaying its competition financially, raking in approximately $27,600,000 in its opening weekend.

Following close behind is Jack Reacher: Never Back, the sequel to its criminally underrated predecessor, Jack Reacher. Raking in around $23,000,000 on its opening weekend, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back will probably reach budget.

Coming in third is a critical anomaly of a film, Ouija: Origin of Evil. Even though it critically outperformed the original Ouija, it fizzled in theaters. Not even a 75% increase from the first film on Rotten Tomatoes could save it from a $14,000,000 fate, $6,000,000 less than the original.

To focus on a film that completely bombed, let’s look at Keeping Up With The Joneses, something I was actually looking forward to. Even though it had a $40,000,000 budget and a noticeable marketing campaign (which didn’t save our last film either), it only gathered a meager $5,600,000 on opening weekend, ranking #6. It received similarly dismal reviews.

Hopefully next week more films can be successful.
