What else could Rockstar be teasing? (and new proof of what they ARE teasing) EDIT: Debunked

Everybody, but everybody has jumped on the Red Dead Redemption 2 bandwagon since Rockstar Games teased the world with a simple image. The featured image at the head of this page, which was the updated cover photo on Rockstar Games Facebook page earlier today. It’s red and it’s kinda patchy, like it’s dirty – and that is it. No other information, no other press releases, they’re just not talking – yet. They’re like a girl that you’re desperately trying to get the attention of, and they respond to most of your messages with “Ah huh” or “haha”…

And the whole world and their dog have immediately jumped to assume that they are about to announce Red Dead Redemption 2 and let’s be fair, that is most likely what they are about to announce. But then this is Rockstar Games, they don’t like to do things like other games companies, and this could just be a rouse. So let’s see what else Rockstar could be teasing, if it isn’t a new Red Dead game.

Red Dead Redemption Remaster

Let’s not go too far from popular opinion now, it’s entirely likely that with the success of Red Dead Redemption’s backwards compatibility on Xbox One, that Rockstar are looking at milking the game a little more. And with the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remaster arguably getting more hype than Infinite Warfare, it definitely would not be beyond the realms of possibility that Red Dead Redemption could be getting a remaster along with the PC release that fans have been crying out for for 6 years.

Grand Theft Auto V – Single Player DLC

Easily Rockstar’s most profitable game, GTA:V has had near constant support and additions to it’s multiplayer side, but pretty much nothing of any substance in the much loved Single Player campaign. There have been a lot of Tweets and Instagram posts from various stars of the game teasing more content over the years, but still – nothing. Could this be the news single player fans have been waiting for?

Grand Theft Auto VI

Let’s think about this – Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was released in 2003. Grand Theft Auto IV in 2008. Grand Theft Auto V in 2013, 5 year gaps, and now perhaps? Grand Theft Auto VI in 2018? It’s not that far away in real terms, and could Rockstar be about to reveal to the world a new Grand Theft Auto game?

Max Payne 4

Max Payne made a triumphant return to our gaming screens 4 years ago with Max Payne 3 – and with the way that Rockstar and Max Payne work, it is very possible that Max Payne 4 could be on it’s way.

Bully 2

More of a cult-classic than anything else, the Bullworth Academy school being seen through the eyes of Jimmy Hopkins was a brilliant game that I still play regularly and still has quite the fan-base. Could we be about to return to the halls of Bullworth? Or another school altogether?

These are just some ideas, however onto what Rockstar ARE teasing. We have to give a massive amount of credit to YouTuber, PsychKyle, who has posted what could be the definitive proof that Rockstar are indeed teasing a new Red Dead game, check out this video.

In case you missed it, here is what was found:

red-dead-retribution

The image is simply called Red Dead Retribution. So I think we can put this to bed, and I think I can confirm without a shadow of a doubt that the next announcement from Rockstar Games will be that of Red Dead Retribution – and I would go as far as to say that this is no longer in rumor territory, but confirmed fact.

What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments below, the RGM Forums or on Twitter.

EDIT: The apparent “proof” that I so proudly displayed above has since been debunked. It was due to a false-positive result on Chrome’s built-in developer tool, which brought up the result of a previous page that the user had visited. So while yes “reddeadretribution” is seen in the code – it is NOT indicative of what the teased image is. Duped by internet science! At least it makes the rest of the article more worthy of a read now! – Richard Talbot-Ashby
