XBOX ONE streaming to XBOX mobile app coming soon

If you’re a Windows 10 user with an Xbox One, chances are you’ve tried to stream from console at least once.

It’s a great feature (when it works) and I’ve been able to capture decent game footage with it and stream to Twitch with OBS – without the need for a capture card. More on that at a later date.

Over the weekend, a Reddit post showed off some screen shots of what many Xbox One fans have been asking for – streaming to mobile. UWP (Universal Windows Platform) just might make that a reality. The latest beta build on Windows Phone shows Play From Console, i.e. streaming from Xbox One instead of the normal Play On Console – this launches the game on Xbox One.

Notice the familiar streaming bar at the top of the first image below.

In the same Reddit post, a few users have been able to get past these errors to the point where an error appears asking for a controller to be connected.

This could mean a mobile handheld attachment may be in the works for the Xbox One controller. Keep in mind the Xbox One app is available on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone so multiple phone sizes would need to be taken into consideration. Given Microsoft’s approach to support all platforms, it remains to be seen what will come of this yet to be unlocked feature.
