The hits just keep on coming for Black Ops 3 on last-gen consoles

In an interview with Develop-Online, one of the development companies responsible for the build of Black Ops 3 on last-gen consoles, Beenox, has confirmed what I believe is the final reason that people will not be rushing to buy Black Ops 3 on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

30 Frames Per Second.

“I’d say that we tried to hit that target [60fps], It becomes harder when you’re working on current gen platforms.”

“We’re basically looking more at something like 30fps. But still, the experience is very enjoyable, otherwise it’s not Call of Duty.” – Thomas Wilson, Beenox Creative Director.

“What we do is we basically, step by step, reduce the polycounts on each asset, reduce the amount of memory that each effects will take, and then eventually we make sure that we maintain that core experience intact,” he said.
“The challenge really is to make that fit in memory, make sure that the experience is good and that you have a great frame rate. So there’s always a big challenge in doing that because of course the main developer will try to make the most kick-ass new-gen game possible. We don’t want them to think about constraints, we want them to go out there and have fun.”

Multiplayer features such as the Paint Shop and e-Sports will also not be available on the last-gen consoles, along with no campaign.

Black Ops 3 will running at 1080p 60 FPS on the PlayStation 4, 4K or higher depending on configuration and 60 FPS or higher depending on configuration on PC, and 1080p 60FPS for Xbox One (to be confirmed).
