Gigantic announce a new partner and the future of direction of development

Many of us have been watching Gigantic evolve for some months now through beta access and special access granted for being a member of the Xbox Preview Program. The game looks beautiful and really is a lot of fun. With the layoffs that were announced last year just before Christmas, many have been worried about the future of Gigantic and how they would recover from the loss of so many staff without it impacting the quality of the game.

Today, some of those concerns have been addressed with the announcement of a new partnership, plus an address to explain the future direction of Gigantic:

Introducing a New Partner and New Future for Gigantic

It’s only been a few weeks since we last touched base with an update, but it’s been clear that one big question remains at the top of many people’s mind: what does the future hold for Motiga and Gigantic? For those of you close to the game or studio, who have been with us from the beginning, or who fell in love with Gigantic somewhere along the way, this has been an important piece of information missing from the puzzle. Well we’re thrilled to finally fill in that piece and help paint a clearer picture about the future of Gigantic.

Today we’re excited and proud to announce our new partnership with Perfect World Entertainment.

This partnership is a huge step for Motiga, as it allows us to continue working towards realizing the vision the development team had for Gigantic – a great competitive online game. Even more so, it accelerates opportunities for Gigantic by having more resources available to us. One of the biggest is being worked on already: an opportunity to bring Gigantic to as many versions of Windows as possible. That’s right; we’re developing a version of the game that will be playable on every 64-bit Windows operating system. This version will be made available through Perfect World’s Arc games platform, which is available on Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. Furthermore, the 64-bit version of Gigantic will be released on the same day as the Xbox One and Windows 10 App Store versions. This will help us introduce Gigantic to a larger audience much quicker than we originally anticipated!

We couldn’t be more excited about this announcement, as it has been the number one request from our community over the past year. At the same time, we are also working to make significant improvements to the game over the next few months, based largely on the feedback we gathered from our beta community during the last phase of testing. You can learn more about those changes in the recent article from our VP of Product Development, James Phinney: A Gigantic Update: Preparing for the Future

It has been a long road to this point, and we’ve been humbled by the amount of love and support that has come from the community throughout the journey. There were friends who wanted to raise money for the studio through donations and crowdfunding. I received daily messages of encouragement in my inbox from our fans; it’s been an incredibly grateful experience. I can’t give enough thanks to all of you for the love and support you’ve shown us.

We have so much to learn over the coming weeks, and we are uncovering new and exciting opportunities with our partners at Perfect World every single day. Their commitment to a quality player experience has been refreshing and rewarding for the entire team. Of course, our goal will be to keep the lines of communication with our community wide open, to keep you posted as frequently as possible, and to make sure you know our Perfect World partners as well as you’ve come to know us.

There is no denying that making games is a business, but our community is the single most important partner we have. We’re going to continue to do everything we can to be worthy of your support.

Thank you again for being there every step of the way! We look forward to seeing you on the airship!
