Classic PC Games From 3D Realms – Free to Download

The other day I had a yearning for some good old fashioned gaming. Gaming to take me back to my childhood. Now I can wait until Christmas for the Mini NES that will be sending Nintendo’s stock soaring even further than Pokemon GO has, but some classic PC Games I thought would be long gone are still knocking about. And arguably, one of the main developers of early PC Gaming was a little company called Apogee, later renamed as 3D Realms were as big a part of my childhood as my dog, Sweep, or my SNES. And anyone who played their games in the early-to-mid 90’s can probably testify that this intro is as iconic as it gets.

Anyway, this isn’t some opinion piece, I’m here to tell you that some classic Apogee games that are available and completely free, and other games that are available for a small fee. The free list is as follows:

  • Alien Carnage
  • Arctic Adventure
  • Bio Menace
  • Major Stryker
  • Monuments of Mars
  • Pharoah’s Tomb
  • Stargunner

There are also a number of games available for purchase including the Commander Keen games, Cosmo’s Cosmic Adventure, Mystic Towers, Raptor: Call of the Shadows, Rise of the Triad: Dark War and Terminal Velocity, among others!

It’s well worth remembering though that Apogee / 3D Realms had a massive role to play in video games history, including being the publishers of the “Grandfather of FPS” Wolfenstein 3D, the bubblegum chewing, ass kicking Duke Nukem (who is all out of gum), making “bullet-time” a thing with Max Payne 1+2 and delivering one of the games of the Naughties with Prey.

What do you think about the free games available through 3D Realms? What do you think about 3D Realms in general? Let us know in the comments below or in the RGM Forums.
