GameStop CEO says merchandise sales up 100 percent due to Pokemon Go

In a recent CNBC interview, GameStop CEO J Paul Raines noted that Pokemon Go has led to an increase in sales at certain GameStop locations. Raines stated that 462 stores that are either Pokestops or Gyms saw Pokemon-related merchandise increase double over this past weekend.

“We did some family events and our sales were up a 100 percent. Our Pokemon merchandise is up significantly across the board,” said Raines. “So we’re very happy to see all this excitement around Pokemon in what is traditionally a slower time of the year for video gaming”, says Raines.
