Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration edition revealed for PS4

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration will launch this October 11th on PlayStation 4 and according to Scot Amos, Co-head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics there is a host of exiting new content coming to the PlayStation 4 version of the game.

“When we were planning the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, our very first imperative was to outdo anything we’d done before, such as our definitive editions. A mere “Game of the Year” wouldn’t satisfy us, or our fans. We knew that our PlayStation community both deserved and demanded more than that. So we’re working with our long-time partner Nixxes Software to make this version truly special”, says Amos.

First up, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration will feature a new story DLC that will feature a franchise favorite location, Croft Manor.

Croft Manor is an important part of Lara’s story and legacy, along with being an important piece of the franchise in general. It was only seen in cutscenes in Rise of the Tomb Raider campaign but in the all-new “Blood Ties” story mode fans will get to explore Croft Manor, unlock its mysteries and defend it against an undead invasion in “Lara’s Nightmare.”

28365542586_6c478d3319_zIt would appear that Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration will also get the PlayStation VR experience as you can play “Blood Ties” through Lara’s eyes in first-person view, a first for the franchise. Crystal Dynamics is also adding an online co-op expansion to Endurance mode where you and a friend can team up, raid tombs and try to reach the top of the leaderboards with the longest survival runs.

Not to be outdone by games like Dark Souls, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration is also receiving a new “Extreme Survivor” setting, which increases difficulty and strips out all checkpoints. The only way to survive and save your game is to forage enough resources to light campfires and make it from one campfire to the next.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration will also receive all previously released DLC when the game arrives on October 11. This includes the three hour story addition Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch, and the Cold Darkness Awakened pack where Lara combats waves of infected predators. The collection will also include all alternate outfits, all weapons and a ton of Expedition Cards.

I spent a lot of hours exploring every nook of Rise of the Tomb Raider when it was released on Xbox One and from the sounds of it this collection may be enticing me to double dip when it releases this fall.
