Star Wars Battlefront – New Skirmish Mode

Pew-Pew, vooooom, swoosh, BANG! These are just some of the sound effects in written form that you could experience with Star Wars Battlefront – but that was fairly obvious wasn’t it?

Star Wars Battlefront has been out for 6 months already, and in some ways it feels like it’s been out a helluva lot longer, and in some ways it feels like it’s barely been out more than 5 minutes. Life, huh?

Well, regardless of the very many perceptions of time and it’s many implications, which would be much more of a suitable article for a quantum-physics or maybe a philosophical blog, I’m here to tell you about some of the new features that are coming to Star Wars Battlefront starting next Thursday, July 21st with Skirmish Mode, according to this official post on the Star Wars EA Website.

“Silly Toolbox24, what the hell is Skirmish mode? Tell us more!” I know that went thought your mind Keith, yep, this time you’re Keith. Well shut up and listen…read…whatever, and I’ll tell you! Alright??

Well Skirmish Mode will essentially be an offline mode for Battlefront after months of people asking for it, but wont be a story mode as such, just a way to quickly jump into the action and on console will include a split-screen co-op mode to boot. Good times!

There will also be “more free in-game events planned for the summer. Look forward to more Hutt Contracts for new weapons, log-in reward opportunities, and open trials to experience Bespin. For a full list of upcoming Star Wars Battlefront in-game events, visit: starwars.ea.com/starwars/battlefront/live-events.”

Something else that caught my eye, was the following:

“Then in September, Season Pass holders will receive our third digital expansion pack, Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Death Star. More new maps – on ground and in space – new weapons and Star Cards and two new heroes including one larger-than-life character we know you’ve been patiently waiting for. Not a Season Pass holder? Don’t worry, the expansion pack is available for separate purchase.”

So another expansion pack is coming at you in September based around the Death Star, which makes me think it could well be based more around the Battle of Endor, as opposed to the Battle of Yavin, although there could be opportunities for it considering there will be new space-based maps as well.

Also the “larger-than-life character” to be included? Chewbacca would be my first bet, but the funny bet would have to be on a blaster toting Jabba the Hutt slithering his way across various maps, slow as you like but with the ability to throw interpreters in the way of blaster fire….yeah probably be Chewie…
