Tragic loss of pro skier Matilda Rapaport filming for Ubisoft

Matilda Rapaport, a professional skier from Sweden has been killed while filming promo footage for Steep, the upcoming extreme snow sports game from Ubisoft. It appears that she was caught in an avalanche as reported yesterday by The Guardian.

Rapaport posted the image above to her Instagram account while working in Chile just days before the accident that would claim her life. Ubisoft issued a statement to Gamespot in which they expressed deep sadness and spoke of “Matilda’s courage, passion, and desire to share the sport she loved with the world served as an inspiration for other athletes and for us all.”

Announced at E3, Steep is an extreme sports game that allows players to defy and master the world’s most epic mountains on skis, wingsuit, snowboard, and in paraglide. It will be available in December on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC.
