PlayStation 4 Pro announced and releases this November

At today’s PlayStation Meeting, Sony’s Andrew House announced the PlayStation 4 Pro stating it will “stand alongside and compliment the original PS4” which will now officially be the slim model. While during the conference Sony never mentioned “Neo” it’s probably safe to assume that this new model is the aforementioned codenamed PlayStation console.

The PlayStation 4 Pro will have 4K and HDR capabilities and will still support your current Playstation 4 game discs and digital downloads. It will feature a 1TB hard drive, and a more powerful GPU along with a boosted CPU that should help where framerates are concerned. One of the takeaways from today’s conference is that the PS4 Pro does not feature a 4K Blu Ray player like Microsoft’s new Xbox One S. It will be interesting to see if this arguable omission will be a sticking point for consumers where the PS4 Pro is concerned.

The 4k compatibility and High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology is definitely the highlight of the new machine and Sony showed off what these new features could bring with titles like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Insomniac’s PS4 exclusive title Spider-Man and Watch Dog’s 2. Sony also showed existing titles that will be HDR compatible like Infamous First Light and Uncharted 4 which will be “forward compatible”, a feature that increases visual enhancements to existing games via a patch.

The PS4 Pro will be available this November 10, 2016 and will retail for $399 USD.
