PS4 won’t get mods for Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition, Bethesda blames Sony

Fans of Fallout 4 on Playstation 4 have been patiently dealing with delays to the release of mods for the game.

Sadly, it seems like mods for Fallout 4 on PS4 may never see the light of day. The game’s developer and publisher, Bethesda, made the announcement Friday on their official website.

Bethesda says after months of discussion, “Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.” As a result, Bethesda says its shelving mods for Fallout 4 and the upcoming Skyrim Special Edition indefinitely.

Mods for the PS4 had earlier been delayed for what Bethesda said were technical issues. Yet in the statement, the company says they “have long been ready to offer mod support on Playstation 4.”

Bethesda recognizes many fans will be disappointed with the news, and says it also put significant time and effort into bringing mods to PS4.

All hope may not be lost, however – Bethesda promised mod support on PS4 will come if Sony allows “proper mod support.” Bethesda stated they will provide updates when and if the situation changes.

It’s not yet clear if the drama will impact the release of other Bethesda games on the PS4.
