Split-screen Co-op Confirmed for Gears of War 4 on PC (as well as XB1)

The coalition has confirmed that Gears of War 4 will have the option to play split-screen co-op on PC. While speaking to pcgamer, director Mike Rayner stated that the feature was a “labor of love” after feedback they received when Gears of War Ultimate did not include the feature. Rayner also stated the following:

“From a development standpoint, it is quite difficult to support. We have to deal with multiple inputs, we have to deal with focus, we have to deal with UI placement. Developers have got to put some effort into it to do it right, it’s not just something you can tack on.”

This is good news for Gears fans that are looking to play primarily on PC. The game will also feature cross-platform support with Xbox One for the co-op modes including campaign, horde mode and multiplayer versus AI mode. Matchmaking for competitive modes will not support cross-play due to the differences in playing with keyboard and mouse and a controller.

Microsoft seems to have learned a lesson after not including split-screen local co-op in Halo 5: Guardians, something that most gamers were not happy about at the time of launch.  Split-screen co-op will also be available for the Xbox One version of the game.
