Steam User Reviews update

Last week we saw a change in how the reviews posted by Steam users influenced the product’s score. Now, that system has been updated, with Steam posting a lengthy explanation here.

The short version is that now the review section for the product will feature ALL reviews written regardless of the way it was purchased by default. Therefore, those who obtained a key from Kickstarter, for example, will still have their review appear in the relevent review section. This does not change the overall score given to the product, as this only counts the scores given by those who purchase the game through the Steam store itself.

Also addressed is the colour of the review score for “Mixed”, which had claims of inconsistency. The colour of the “Mixed” text has now been adjusted to a yellow/tan colour, with “Positive” and “Negative” remaining green and red respectively.

Again, for a more in-depth explanation head over to the Steam Store news page. What do you make of these changes? Has it affected the way you purchase items from Steam or other sites? Is it fair on indie developers? Let us know your opinions in the comments below
