Horizon: Zero Dawn – Evolution of the Machines video released

Seriously, this game is looking almost impossibly good. If developer Guerilla Games can pull off the transition from first-person shooter to third-person open-world RPG, then all gamers (mostly PS4 players) will win.

This video goes into further detail on the robots that inhabit Horizon’s world and how they can be put to use. The art director goes into detail on the design team’s initial struggle with designing these crazy robot creatures, but he explained that it was through imagining them as animals that they figured out the designs AND their behaviors.

There will be the predatory animals like the Snapmaw, which is a giant robot alligator, as well as peaceful robotic animals like the giraffe-inspired one that can actually assist the player in identifying details within the landscape. Certain robots can be ridden to cross the open world faster, some can be destroyed to inherit their resources, and the giraffe-like robot serves as a watch-tower kind of gameplay mechanic that helps identify certain parts of the nearby map.

All this is possible through the hacking mechanic shown off in the gameplay, and with the PS4 Pro visuals to accompany it, the video is truly a visual marvel.

The hype levels for this game are growing by the day, and we can only hope that this game is as masterfully crafted and functional as advertised. Besides, who doesn’t want to play a game that’s Tomb Raider meets the Last of Us with robots?
