Mother 4 – A Fan Made Masterpiece

Ever since it’s release in 1995, Earthbound fans have been clamoring for another instalment in the series. There have been 3 games in the Mother franchise so far, with only the first 2 having a North American release. Mother 3, a GameBoy Advance game has yet to be officially translated. However, fan translations for the game are available to be played on emulators.

One of the coolest things about the Mother franchise is the fanbase, and you won’t find any more dedicated fans than the folks who are working to create an entire game; Mother 4. After about seven years of development, the game is almost finished, and it looks amazing! Mother 4 is “made for fans, by fans.” and will be completely free to play on Mac, Windows, & Linux as a standalone game.

“Mother 4 follows the journey of three kids and the leader of a biker gang. With dark rumors of “Modern Men” running wild, these unassuming heroes set out to uncover the truth, no matter how dangerous. From bustling urban streets to secret volcano bases, all kinds of oddball thugs and impossible monsters stand in their way… but everything should be okay if they don’t forget to write home!”

As someone who has played both Earthbound and Mother 3 it is safe to say that this game will do them both justice. Along with new artwork, music and story, Mother 4 will also feature a new engine which will allow for improved gameplay and mechanics to be added. I hadn’t played many RPGs before, but I decided to see give Earthbound a go. It is probably the best one in the series to start with, and it is now one of my favorite games of all-time. I highly recommend you try it out! It is available on both WiiU and 3DS systems. Check out the Mother 4 gameplay trailer:
