Something For The Weekend – Sid Meier’s Pirates!

Civilization II

Good news everyone! It’s the weekend, and with 2 of my most anticipated games of the year coming out this week in the shape of Battlefield 1 and Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, I thought long and hard about a different game for you to sink your teeth into if you perhaps have to wait that little bit longer for one of those 2. That’s why my choice this weekend for Something For The Weekend is 2004’s – Sid Meier’s Pirates! Check out the trailer for the Mac version of the game below (courtesy of Feral Interactive on YouTube)

Sid Meier’s Pirates! is one of my all time favorite games, from the brilliant mind of Sid Meier, this remains (to me) the best game based in the pirate genre ever made. The sea battles can on occasion be frustrating, but are quite accurate in the sense that wind speed and direction need to be taken fully into account, the side quests are a little samey but really do give you a sense of wanting to accomplish them but it’s the overall feel and massive amount of fun that you’ll have playing the game, working out where buried treasure is, attacking towns with your army of blood-thirsty scally-wags, finding your family and more – Sid Meier’s Pirates might be 12 years young, but it’s as solid a game today as it ever was.

You can get Sid Meier’s Pirates! on a veritable plethora of games systems including:
