Gran Turismo Sport VR limited to one mode

Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of Gran Turismo, has confirmed to Eurogamer that the VR support in the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport will be limited to a mode called ‘VR Tour’. From the sounds, it will be a small “career” mode with various maps of different terrain, and stats to build and improve on.

However, this news is certain to come under criticism, as other racing titles such as Sony’s Driveclub VR and DiRT Rally support VR over the whole game, and judging by my times at Insomnia Gaming Festival, and EGX 2016, the VR was a big selling point of GT Sport, and seemed to be very popular. A dynamic seat and steering wheel set up was available for people to try, and there was a lot of emphasis on the idea that this would be an exciting VR experience.

For a game series which has undoubtedly lost momentum in recent years, and has been delayed until next year, this may hurt sales, though the game’s support on the new PS4 Pro looks pretty special. I’m sure the veteran fans of the franchise will still be excited for it, but Kazunori Yamauchi’s rather lame excuse that a whole VR game would be a “strain on the players”, seems as though there may be more to it. I’m not sure what, but it’s not for me to say…
