Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds star in Sci-Fi thriller Life

In the movie industry, it seems that space is the new hot spot for many big-name actors. There’s Arrival with Amy Adams, Passengers with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, and now there’s Life starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds. Promising to be a Sci-Fi horror experience, Life is directed by Daniel Espinosa, who directed Child 44 and the Ryan-Reynolds-led Safe House. He is accompanied by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, writers of Deadpool and Zombieland, who developed the screenplay.

It certainly looks to be a mix of Gravity and Prometheus, which will surely excite Sci-Fi fans. Now, even if the director may be a little hit-or-miss with his track record, the talented leading men (especially Gyllenhaal, who has been nothing but excellent in his latest roles) along with the screenwriters should add plenty of reassurance regarding the film’s quality. There are certainly no guarantees in the quality of a film in Hollywood, especially the rarely-visited ground of the Sci-Fi horror genre. However, we can hope this is more universally-praised like Alien and less divisive like Prometheus.

Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.

Life comes out May 27, 2017 and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare, Hiroyuki Sanada and Ryan Reynolds.
