Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 a reality? Series dev denies it, but the rumors persist

With the upcoming PlayStation Experience almost upon us, rumors haven naturally begun to spread on what will be shown at the event. The hottest rumor going around right now is the above teaser image for what is supposedly a confirmation of Marvel vs. Capcom 4, a sequel to the much-beloved fighting series.

Through a particularly popular NeoGAF thread (readable here) and a series of tweets comes the hype train that seems to have spread the anticipation for what could ultimately be a false alarm and fake story.

Much of the rumors came from some teaser images (like this one) that have stoked the flames of MVC fans who have been clamoring for a new game for years.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like this rumor will prove to be true, if the main dev is to be believed. This was the quote taken from series developer Ryota Niitsuma on Twitter when asked about MVC4:

Thanks for keeping the love for the game going! I would love to make #mvc4, but nothing’s happening on that front. RT @PG_Erdogan @JWonggg N

Sadly, for now at least, fans will not be seeing any new Marvel vs. Capcom content for some time now (and certainly not at PSX). If Niitsuma is bluffing and there WILL be some new footage, then everyone can be pleasantly surprised. Until then, don’t get your hopes up.
