Need for Speed Arena trademark registered in Europe by EA

I’m not sure how things work in the United States, however in the European Union (EU) there is the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) which is an organisation for companies and individuals to register trademarks and their own intellectual properties (IP) – video games being one such IP. Well everyone’s favorite video game company, EA, have recently registered Need for Speed Arena.

The details of this game include that it is (perhaps obviously enough) “Computer game software” but the devil is in the details, it also says “downloadable computer game software via a global computer network and wireless devices; video game software.”

Wireless devices? This seems to imply that Need for Speed Arena will be a game for a portable platform, perhaps the PS Vita? Perhaps tablets and mobile? Maybe that new Nintendo console that people seem to be excited about? Need for Speed Arena will likely be a 2017 release and now the ball is firmly in EA’s court to unveil more information since there is nothing else on this EUIPO page.
