Something For The Weekend: Command & Conquer

Civilization II

Good News everybody! It’s the weekend, it’s the 5th Friday before Christmas, Thanksgiving was yesterday and people have been out grabbing deals and bargains all day for Black Friday. Now this week’s Something For The Weekend you could argue that we’re spoiled for choice, with so many games on offer many of you who might have tided yourselves over with getting a little game here or there whilst waiting for that BIG one might have been able to grab what you’ve been waiting for for a while.

However I’m here to offer an alternative, something you might not have thought of, something different for you to sink your teeth into over the weekend. Cast your eyes and mouse cursors back a while to the game franchise that really set itself apart in the world of Real Time Strategy games, cast your eyes back and think of Command & Conquer – which one? The whole damned lot. The Ultimate Collection. Check out the trailer below.

That’s right, I’m breaking from my normal convention of recommending 1 game per weekend by technically recommending 17. The 17 games included in Command & Conquer: The Ultimate Collection are:

• Command & Conquer
• Command & Conquer: The Covert Operations
• Command & Conquer: Red Alert
• Command & Conquer: Red Alert: Counterstrike
• Command & Conquer: Red Alert: The Aftermath
• Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun
• Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun Firestorm
• Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
• Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2: Yuri’s Revenge
• Command & Conquer: Renegade
• Command & Conquer: Generals
• Command & Conquer: Generals: Zero Hour
• Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
• Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars: Kane’s Wrath
• Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3
• Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3: Uprising
• Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight

We’ve all heard of Command & Conquer, and this is one game franchise that I’ve been playing since its inception in the mid-90’s, when I was just a little boy – and it’s one franchise that could definitely do with a reboot or remaster in my opinion. The official description on the Origin store states:

“Are you ready for the ultimate real-time strategy experience? Gather resources, build your base, and create the most powerful armies in the world before engaging the enemy in all-out war. Fight as the Global Defense Initiative or the Brotherhood of Nod as they clash over the rare mineral Tiberium in the classic original series. Challenge the red menace in an alternate universe in Red Alert, then step into the near future with Generals as China and the United States battle the Global Liberation Army, a terrorist organization hell-bent on bringing the world to its knees. However you play, you’ll enjoy limitless hours of RTS Command & Conquer gaming with 10 base games and 7 in-depth expansion packs.”

These 17 games are without a doubt worth the low outlay that you’ll be paying at the moment with 75% off in the Origin Black Friday sale you’ll only pay $4.99 instead of the full price of $19.99.
