Ubisoft Pushing for Independence and Innovation

Ubisoft fending off Vivendi, for now...

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemont puts on a strong smile despite the company's worries about ownership issues.

Ubisoft’s next big business venture might not be exactly what you were expecting. Instead of news about the next Assassin’s Creed game or its many game to movie franchise ideas, the latest from Ubisoft headquarters and CEO Yves Guillemot is about the possibility of a Netflix series.

No news has been released on the details for the Netflix series or for which game the show could cover as the companies are still in preliminary talks, but this is another strategic move that Ubisoft has made to compete against the threat of being bought out by Vivendi.

Although neither side has acknowledged any movement for a hostile takeover since October, Vivendi has slowly been gaining more and more control over the share holders in the recent years, now even holding more than 20% in the company overall.

Even with the rumors of a takeover coming, chairman and chief executive officer of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemont is keeping the company focused on expanding for the future. According to Yves, the company is looking into acquisitions of €50-100 million ($110.7 million) price range with a focus into the mobile phones game sector.

Ubisoft would be one of many companies to continue expanding the growing mobile gaming market and with it the company has considered adding up to 1,000 jobs for their headquarters in France over the next five years.

For now, Yves and the Ubisoft higher-ups maintain control of the company and are looking for ways to expand the founding family’s strength over Ubisoft according to our source at Reuters.

What game series would you want to be made into a Netflix series? What do you think will happen to Ubisoft in the next coming years? Would you be open to a change in the company? Let us know in the comments below, on the RGM Forums or over on our Twitter.
