The Video Game Awards is a showcase that proves just how great it is to be a gamer in 2016. Among the many premieres of fantastic games coming our way in 2017 such as Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mass Effect: Andromeda another standout from last night’s show was Bethesda’s upcoming Prey reboot.

Bethesda shocked many of its fans with joy this past E3 with the announcements of reboots for Prey and Quake only a year after the critical success of the DOOM reboot. At E3 we only saw a captivating glimpse of just what Prey could be and with the new trailer released at the VGA’s we can now confirm its time to board the hype train once again.

Developer id Software showed the industry that the FPS campaigns weren’t dead but in fact in flourish, with last years DOOM and it seems they are out to capture that magic again. With action and environments that entice feelings of Dishonored, Alien Isolation, and Bioshock 2017’s Prey looks to reboot the franchise on a very strong note.

Not much is known about the story of the game other then you play protagonist Morgan Yu and there is trouble at the space station he inhabits after he is subject to strange experiments gone wrong. Footage from the trailer looked to be a mix of brand new enemy encounters as well as new powers with some footage from previous reveals mixed in displaying the mimic matter ability and the gloo cannon.

Prey 2 only ever got as far as a cinematic trailer but it looks like the new Prey is in fantastic hands. Frankly, I can’t wait to see what id Software and Bethesda do with this one.

Prey will be hitting stores in Spring 2017 and will be gracing the next cover of Gameinformer magazine.
