Something For The Weekend – The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition

Civilization II

Good news everyone! Friday is here again, and of course from Real Game Media, that means that we are here to suggest something outside the normal new games and the like for you to sink your teeth into over the weekend. Whether that be an older game, an indie game or something that has been outside of your thoughts for some time. This week, I am delighted to suggest, for Something For The Weekend – The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition (SE). Check out the immense 7 minute trailer below.

If you’re a fan of story driven adventure games then The Secret of Monkey Island: SE is the game for you. If you like stupid humor, then The Secret of Monkey Island: SE is for you. If you are a fan of humor in games, then get yourself a copy of the game that – I feel – revolutionized bringing “lols” to gaming.

The Secret of Monkey Island: SE is a completely faithful remaster of the original 1990 game, almost literally layered over the top so that you can seamlessly switch from the classic graphics to the remaster as you go and includes voice acting. You play as Guybrush Threepwood, a young man on The Island of Mêlée who just wants nothing more than to become a pirate and woo the islands governor – Elaine Marley. Along the way you’ll have to deal with the evil ghost pirate LeChuck and interact with colorful characters including Stand the Used Boat Salesman, Meathook a fellow with hooks for hands, a voodoo priestess among many, many more. Jokes and innuendo’s abound in this forth-wall breaking, swashbuckling adventure where it will be essential that you find a use for a rubber-chicken with a pulley and the use of the phrase “How appropriate. You fight like a cow.”

The Secret of Monkey Island: SE is available on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Xbox One (via Backwards Compatibility). If you want one of the greatest games of the 1990’s and one that you may have never indulged in, then don’t delay – this is definitely worth the small outlay!
