Relive the past as Diablo 3’s Anniversary Event goes live

Diablo 3's Anniversary

Longtime Diablo veterans will have fond memories of Blizzard’s first classic foray against the nefarious denizens of Hell, released on PC back in 1996. Many a mouse was rendered useless by frenzied clicking as players frenetically massacred legions of demons in an effort to score the best loot available.

Beginning today, after deploying the latest patch in Diablo 3, Blizzard is giving gamers the opportunity to revisit the old Cathedral dungeon from the first game in the much loved series. A special event, titled “The Darkening of Tristram” is now playable as part of the studio’s homage to Diablo and it’s 20th Anniversary and also features new items, achievements and some familiar enemies that will really get that nostalgia going!

Straight from Blizzard:

An ancient evil stirs in the ruins of Old Tristram, and a mysterious portal has appeared that leads to the halls of an all-too familiar cathedral. Deep beneath the catacombs, the Dark Lord awaits any intrepid adventurer who dares to challenge him.

Blizzard’s entire stable of titles is getting Diablo related content as part of the event. Take a look at the trailer below for a taste of what the patch has to offer:

As a gamer who played alot of the original Diablo back in the day, I’m looking forward to taking on the Dark Lord once again. This is pure fan service and Blizzard should be applauded for celebrating such an iconic title as well as offering all new content for free. Nice work!
