Holy. Moly! You ready for some exciting news? Timesplitters, the cult-classic first person shooter, is making a comeback…of sorts, in the guise of Timesplitters Rewind.
Timesplitters Rewind has been in the works, apparently, since 2013. The new title is reportedly meant to be a multiplayer based remake of the original trilogy. The original games, created by Free Radical, are brilliant. Newly renamed developers Cinder Interactive Arts are helming the remake seem to be making good progress. So much so that they plan to release the remake this year!
They made this announcement via a new teaser trailer video that released today:

Not much to it huh? Well, there’s some shiny CryEngine crystals. Plus, if you look closer at the crystals you may well see some familiar faces. Well, if you’re a fan of the Timesplitters series at least. One of the most important things, however, is the release year. It’s coming in 2017, not 2018 as originally teased in the trailer.
Though that’s kind of it. I honestly didn’t know that Timesplitters Rewind was a thing to be honest. I remember rumblings when Crytek bought Free Radical that there could be a new Timesplitters coming, but nothing ever materialised. Seeing this though, it gets me super excited, reminiscent and slightly wary. Reactions to the trailer on Reddit have been mixed. Many users are commenting that there isn’t enough shown for the length of the trailer.
The original Timesplitters games were three of my favorite titles from my childhood.If you are wondering, Timesplitters Future Perfect was always the best for me (controversial I know). So part of me is ecstatic that we will get our hands on a Crytek backed remake of those games, in multiplayer form at least. The other part of me is cautiously optimistic, Timesplitters always had a certain feel to it. Like Goldeneye injected with a huge amount of character and bizarre humor. It’s amazing! To be fair to Cinder Interactive Arts, their community blog is certainly painting a hopeful picture. Screenshots look the part for the sure.
Either way, I’m pretty jazzed for Timesplitters Rewind. There’s still loads we don’t know though. A specific release date, price and formats are the three big ones in my eyes.
