Developers of Pokémon Recruiting for Console Game
Game Freak has produced every mainline title in the Pokémon franchise

Since before the launch of the Nintendo Switch, there have been rumors of a Pokémon game coming to the console. Today, those rumors had some more fuel thrown on the fire. According to IGN, Game Freak, the developers of Pokémon, are now hiring for a new console game. Specifically, the advert calls for a 3D designer who will work on “characters, monsters and items“, all for “a title that everyone knows.”

All of this certainly points to a full-fledged Pokémon game being in development for the Switch. If this is true, it would be a huge value add for the console. The impact of that franchise has certainly helped shape the gaming industry. While Zelda: Breath of the Wild is by all accounts a phenomenal experience, as a system seller it will eventually wane. Having a Pokémon game to replace it as the must-have title for the system would be a fantastic move.

Currently, Splatoon 2 is slated to release this summer and Super Mario Odyssey is arriving this holiday. With that in mind, it seems unlikely that a potential Pokémon game would release this year. Sometime in Spring 2018 seems far more reasonable. Regardless, hopefully this isn’t just rumor and we get official confirmation in the months to come.
