Sucker Punch’s new IP, Ghost of Tsushima, has been revealed

Ghost of Tsushima
Embrace the way of the Ghost

We’ve known for some time that Sucker Punch (the developers of Infamous) were working on a new IP. That IP was revealed today at the 2017 Paris Games Week PlayStation Conference, as the mysterious new Ghost of Tsushima. This open world game places players in the boots of a samurai defending his home from the invading Mongolian hordes.

Watch the stunning new trailer below:

Here’s the official synopsis:

The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan–until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But, honorable tactics won’t lead you to victory. You must move beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting–the way of the Ghost–as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan.

This definitely looks exciting to me. Samurai combat? A vast and beautiful land to explore? An unstoppable, near-legendary invading force? I can’t wait. I’m especially intrigued by the historical aspects, as this appears to be based on real history instead of being infused with mythology. Hopefully we’ll learn more soon. There’s no release date however, whenever it does release, Ghost of Tsushima will arrive exclusively on the PlayStation 4.
