Yes, it’s true. One of my favorite games of this generation (and likely many other’s favorite as well), just got a big boost on console. CD Projekt Red has just released the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Xbox One X patch, bringing major improvements across the board and two render modes for players to choose from.
In this blog post, CD Projekt Red explains all the new additions. There are two render modes, 4K mode and Performance mode. While most of the improvements, such as higher-quality textures or HDR support, are present in either mode, 4K mode locks the game to a native 4K resolution (2160×3840 pixels) while Performance mode gives it a dynamic 4K resolution, meaning it goes through resolutions between 1080p and 4K depending on what’s happening. Performance mode however, also targets the game’s framerate to 60fps, which is absolutely incredible.
Here’s a rundown of everything added:
- 2 new graphic modes: 4K Mode and Performance Mode
- support for 4K resolution
- HDR support
- enhanced shadows, ambient occlusion and texture filtering
- higher resolution textures
- dynamic resolution scaling (from 1080p to 4K)
CD Projekt Red also stated that HDR was coming to the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S versions of the game sometime in the near future.
Previously, framerates higher than 30fps were only possible on PC. If you’ve got an Xbox One X and The Witcher 3, you now have plenty of options to play around with. Now if you’ll excuse me, I feel another playthrough coming up. Thank you CDPR!
