Battleborn has gone nearly free-to-play with a generous trial

Battleborn has gone nearly free-to-play
Battleborn originally released on May 3rd, 2016

Launching back on May 3rd, 2016, Gearbox’ Battleborn didn’t really see a lot of sales traction. However, they clearly haven’t given up on it, producing new DLC and community updates in the months that followed. Now, Battleborn has gone nearly free-to-play with a very generous free trial starting today.

Here are the details:
  • A weekly rotation of six of the thirty heroes will be playable
  • Access to all maps and modes
  • No time limits or level caps
  • Progress is kept if you purchase the full game

The trial is available worldwide right now on Xbox One and Steam, and in the USA on PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4 trial will become available in other regions on June 13th, 2017. There’s also a new trailer to celebrate the free trial:

Existing players get an upgrade to Founder status. Here’s what they’ll get:

  • Founder title
  • Legendary gear
  • 1000 Platinum
  • 50000 Credits
  • Loot Packs and more

Even if Battleborn underperformed, it’s good to see Gearbbox supporting it like this. Maybe this free trial means we’ll see an influx of new players. It also makes me wonder just what Gearbox will be working on next? A Borderlands 3 E3 announcement? Who knows, we’ll have to wait and see.
